A question: is Rodrigo based on El Cid? I cannot help noticing similarities.

Ripped off from and twisted in ways that I really don't like too much would be closer to the truth, if you ask me. I look forward to seeing where you end up in the debate (or difference in opinion, anyway) below between Jake and me on the one hand, and Rebekah and Roh on the other.

I haven't dared look at the debates yet. I am holding off till I've finished the book.

On that note: I will be somewhat more bothered if Almalik of Cartada does not turn out shaded in some way. I don't think ibn Khairan would have served a psycopath. I look forward to finding out what happened there.

He is shaded already, isn't he? Will get more so before the end I suppose, yes.

He has not shown up yet at this point. He has been mentioned only as the instigator of the murder of the khalif and then the man behind the beheading of all those people in front of his son.
