The Not-So-Dirty Half Dozen Challenge.

1. Read a work of Classic literature - one you've never read before.

What if I've seen the movie? Would I still be allowed to read the book? What exactly defines something as "classic"?

Extra challenge for this task: write a review of the book and post it on the board.

The Rules:

Every two months you must complete a task. You'll have all of those two months to complete each task. (Thus Task One is for January and February, Task Two is for March and April, etc.)

And don't forget these:

Genre Challenge

Quite simply, just read one book from each of the genres below before the year is out. Rereads are allowed; it's up to you whether you choose all new books or not. I probably won't. And choose one of the books in this challenge to review for the board.

What if a book I pick up is a Horror/Alternative History/Biography/Western/Mystery? Would I be allowed to count it as all of the above or just as one?

- Historical Fiction/Alternative History

- Western

- Horror

- Mystery

- (Auto-) Biography

- History

- Family chronicle

- Allegory/parody/satire

- Surrealist novel

- Extra option for those who can: a novel in a foreign language

Old Favourite:

The 50 Book Challenge. Says it all, really.

How long of a book must it be to count it here? Obviously I don't think Dr. Seuss books would count, but where's the cut-off point?

If you're an extra-speedy reader then make it 100 books. List 'em all, starting from today!

And one more thing:

It's a good time for you to pick up a book you've been meaning to read for ages. Just tell us which book it is in this post and then read it sometime in 2011.

Do re-reads count here? I've been meaning to re-read WoT, but I'm sure I can make it through those two Stargate books I have been meaning to get to for awhile. They're based off the original movie and not the TV shows.

So! Go ahead and tell us what you're reading for January/February's challenge, and for the Book You've Been Meaning To Read For Ages.
Kirk: Spock, you want to know something? Everybody’s human.
Spock: I find that remark…insulting.
