Kraken is much more fantasy-based than King Rat (which had far too many references to jungle music for my liking), and is quite geeky in places.

Mieville is generally never an easy read (the only exception being Un Lun Dun, a young adult book which is similar in concept to Gaiman's Neverwhere) but Kraken is much closer to "mainstream" than many of his other books.

Give it a go; I can loan it to you on Monday, if you're coming down to Leith for Tim's birthday drinks.

That would be tricky, as I am still in Norway. I won't be back till the 11th.

Yeah, the ending got in the way of an otherwise really enjoyable book - 02/01/2011 04:38:24 PM 1373 Views
