Just finished reading I Shall Wear Midnight, and I will post a review in the next couple of days as I can't see that anybody else has. But first, I wanted to ask a few questions about what you think of Sir Terry.
1) have you read any Terry Pratchett?
Yep.
2) if so was it Discworld or something else or both? How many books?
Both. Since I have read most of discworld, I guess somewhere around 20 books? I don't honestly keep a count, and finding a list to check would take effort.
3) what is your overall opinion of Pratchett's writing?
Good satirical material - it improved rather a lot from the early books. He is very much a writer you have to be in the right mood to read, though.
4) which are your favourite arc of books by TP? (e.g Tiffany Aching, Vimes, Strata, the truckers etc.)
Rincewind/Wizards, actually. It might have more low points than the guards sequence, but also more high points.
5) have you noticed a change in his style or quality since his diagnosis with Alzheimers?
Nope, I haven't actually read anything from him in the last 5 years or so...
6) do you think it is right for an author to be knighted on the basis of fiction he has written?
Whatever. He's bigger than Jesus.
7) what is your favourite individual Pratchett book?
Interesting Times, I believe. Well, good omens is good to, but as it is not exclusively his...
do you also think this is his best work?Probably not. The unaligned books are probably better stylistically.
9) do you ever find that you don't think of your favourite book by an author etc as the best one? Why is this (not) so?
Because quality is not defined by my preference, which can be influenced by a lot of things pertaining to the reading of said story. My background in reading can lead me to appreciate a certain callous style, but that does not necessarily mean it is a good style...
10) have you read I Shall Wear Midnight? What did you think?
Nope.
11)do you prefer TP's funny satires, his somewhat darker mire serious works (generally still satirical) something in between or do you see his work as something else? Or do you hate all of it?
He uses the fantasy setting to more easily perform the satire... the removal of real world aspects can make it easier to draw lines. However, I still appreciate the satire.... so I dunno.
12) have you seen any of the tv sealskins of his works? How do you think they compare to the novels?
sealskins? clubbed well?
