Re: A couple of new questions; Stephen Send a noteboard - 08/01/2011 06:19:18 PM
1) in my opinion, and that of several others, Night Watch is one of TP's best books. Yet it is at the end of an arc as it were, and the finer points of Character development and a lot of other pointed the book tries to address relies on having read at least some of the earlier books. Have you read any books part way through a series? ( a proper series like WoT or a kind-of series like Discworld?)

That was the second Discworld book i read the first time i read it. I read just about every book completely out of order but still enjoyed them all.
2) do you think it affected the quality of your read for better or worse or not at all?

Yeah, obviously i didn't get some references, but since then i've re-read a few in order and had similar opinions of the books.
3) I personally think that TP's characterisation, due to the long length of the book arcs, occurs quite strongly but more slowly and subtly across the series. Do you agree? Is this good or bad or neutral? Basically this is a "read my rather silly statement: discuss" question

I like the characterisation, how it builds up over time. Sometimes books that expect you to fully invest and care about characters over the space of 3-400 pages can leave me cold. So yeah, i like the way Tery does it.
