Then maybe you could consider reading VanderMeer's The Third Bear collection, since that's one of his strongest works, I believe. Or maybe The Complete Stories of J.G. Ballard if you want more bang for your buck. John Crowley's Ægypt Cycle certainly is well worth reading.

And if you want something brand new, Karen Russell's debut novel, Swamplandia!, just came out this past Tuesday.
