I feel the same about Wot as you, and Robin Hobb is a great recommendation!

She creates wonderful characters you fall in love with. Stay away from the Soldier Son trilogy though...not sure what happened there.
I love GRRM. If you havn't read A Game of Thrones you may begrudgingly admit to finding a better author than Jordan afterwards.
I personally loved Gardens of the Moon (though I'm in the minority there), and the books do get better. This series is one of my favorites.
Jacqueline Carey's books are outstanding if you don't mind the NC-17 rating for intense sex scenes. Though Jordan's own Fallon books (written as Reagan O'Neal) were almost as graphic if not as well written.
There are many good books out there. Joe Ambercrombie is brilliant. Gene Wolf is good. Harry Potter? G.G. Kay is amazing!

Erikson's books are fantastic, but the characterization could not be more different than WoT's.

RJ didn't pick anyone. He tried to finish it before he died.

I enjoyed the book but I don't think his prose were as good as Jordan's

Honestly, they kind of remind me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if Giles was the main character.
