That is to say, while important, people can think about history to the point of obsession, and it ruins their chances of living full lives in the present. There are people who break free of this; there's that pair of T'lan Imass who fall in love even under the ritual of Tellan and end up walking away from Onos Toolan.
I may be projecting, since that's largely the conclusion I've come to regarding the study of history.
Regarding DnD, I think an interesting question is which characters SE played and which ones ICE played.
