I also wouldn't assume that people are arriving at the site via a search engine or that even if they do that will somehow allow them to understand the site structure as a whole. In fairness however the time most new visitors would spend lurking before making a post would probably allow them to learn the rules of what goes where.


Yes, but it is about search rankings. instead of being the 1001th book site, maybe being the 9th SFF site is better? You know.

It's the same argument over whether it's better to be the 50th SF/F site overall or the #3 WoT one. Going hard for WoT only would mean a lot of people wouldn't visit even once and learn about things like wotmanias OFMB, but going for just "books" would almost certainly get us buried under hundreds of other already established sites. Again, hopefully this approach is the best rather than the worst of both worlds; any approach has its own set of pros and cons, and the only real way to know which works is best is to run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.
