Chains and whips maybe. But holding someone at the edge of death for days at a time? And demons with spiked penises? I should be ashamed of myself... but somehow I'm not. 
Did the spiked penis demons appear after the 5th book? Because I would have thought something that odd would stick out in my memory.
Third book, I think. Maybe second. I only read the first three. It's in the scene when the "good guys" are spying on the bad ones and they get caught, and the evil creature dude cuts the woman in half. Before that, she was watching them summon the creature and it raped the initiate with its spiked penis.
