Your list of books to read is pretty good. Tom Send a noteboard - 11/05/2011 11:21:07 PM
Campaigns of Napoleon is one of my favorite military histories, hands-down. The Shelby Foote trilogy is brilliant, as I expressed in my review of it. I reviewed Fisk a while back. I disagree with his position in many cases but the book was still very well-written.

However, one thing this book has going for it that none of the others you mentioned does is that it's short. It was only 293 pages in my Folio Society edition, and it's even shorter in some other formats (I believe - don't quote me on that). That makes it probably, oh, 1/20 the size of the Foote or Chandler books and still probably about 1/7 the size of the Fisk book (that book has a small font that makes each page about 2-3 times bigger than each page in Taylor).
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius
