Suprisied they haven't published the first one in English yet.

His first one was released as Prince of Mist in English (not available in French yet, but his fourth YA novel is: Marina) and this is his second novel, and I think they're all stand-alones. Everywhere they seem to present them as "the first" and "the second" of four novels for young adults Zafon published in the early 1990s and according both to the author and the reviews they are very much like "drafts" for the Shadow of the Wind, but nowhere they mention the YA books are a continuous or thematic series.

His trilogy (The cemetery of forgotten books) is rather the Shadow of the Wind, the Angel's Game and the much anticipated third one.

I believe there are supposed to be four Cementerio books. Maybe Zafón has changed his mind on it, though.
