Having read that one, and after reading your review now, I've no doubt this book would be worth reading as well, but I don't really plan to do so any time soon. :P McCarthy is an author to be read in small doses, if you ask me.

It's funny you call his prose "sparse" - I'd heard that before, and it gave me entirely the wrong expectation for Blood Meridian's prose, which if you ask me was a long way from sparse. Of course, this book might be different, I've only read the one book by him yet.
