Hated, HATED the romance. Marius was awesome before he met Cosette, and pathetic afterward.

I had heard the section on Waterloo described in less-than-favorable terms before I read it, but I thought it was as fantastic as you did.

You didn't mention Javert, though. Javert is one of the best characters in literature, I think.

The book deserves its place as one of the great literary works of all time, despite its glaring flaws. I'd recommend it to anyone, with a similar warning about the boring sections.
