I just think that it will take 2-3 generations to be acceptable. However, the cultural and religious pressures in the Islamic world that have led to the "war on terror" will inevitably lead to disillusionment, turning inwards and a further fracturing of Islam into different denominations. The Arab Spring is already showing that the old games aren't working, and jihadi movements are (thankfully) largely discredited by now.
However, once serious scholarship starts to look at the Qur'an with more discernment, it will necessitate a "Revised Qur'an" or some such, where the original language has been reconstructed as well as possible.
