Will be jumping into Sanderson's new epic series in a few weeks after some business travel. Just wondering the following, for those that read book 1, not looking for spoilers, but some context/opinions:
How did you like it?
I loved it. I found it hard to put down. I was up way past my bedtime most nights while reading it.
What were the goods and bads of the book?
The goods were the fact that I was interested and pulled in from the beginning. The bad was that the main character (Kaladrin? It's been almost a year since I read it) was basically Kelsier rewritten a little. He had the same hatred of the nobility that was present in Mistborn. It's not something would notice on my own, but it was mentioned here a few times.
How is it's format? (typical hero/quest epic, something different)
I'd say that it is definitely something different.
What's unique about it.....i.e., what is the Sanderson spin?
Of course, he has the unique magic system that he is known for. A couple of them actually.
After the end of book 1, do you know where the rest of the series isnot heading?
Not really. I never really try to see where a series is going while reading. I'm usually too busy being caught up in the moment.
How does it compare to book 1 of other beloved epic series?
The only other epic fantasy that I have really read is WoT. I think that just for the fact that I'm coming to this series at the beginning it's better than tEotW.
Are you eager to read book 2?
It is number two on my list of most anticipated books of the next several years. Only Alloy of Law is higher.
Thanks!
You're welcome. I'm sure you'll love the book.
Kirk: Spock, you want to know something? Everybody’s human.
Spock: I find that remark…insulting.

Could end up surpassing Mistborn. Has some growing pains, though. *NM*
