It does demand a lot of invested attention from the new reader, but it does pay off in the end. (Well, for me, it actually paid off around the 2nd or 3rd book)

YES. This series is worth it. I hope you finish the 1st book. It took me about three times to re-read it because I kept putting it down in the middle.
