I'm sticking with it, and in part it is because it's not the typical derivative fantasy. As much as I've loved WoT, and other series like it, this book has been a breath of fresh air, even if that air is initially hard for my lungs to process. So, I'll stick with it for the first few books, and give it a fair chance. If I don't like it, by then, then I'll drop them, but after the majority of positive opinions, I think I owe it to myself not to give up in the first book.
Is the Malazan series worth it?

I feel like there are much better, tighter, more rewarding series out there. *NM*

Yes. Doesn't entirely live up to its potential imho, but the good outweighs the bad. *NM*

It's really great, but it's not really mainstream fantasy.

I got stuck in the middle of the 2nd book (when they are in a cave), so it's a no for me. *NM*

No, because of badly written characters and illogical power rankings...and a chaotic plot...
