Various other races, whatever. But it's still believable, as long as people are people and act as people do in the real world (if they had grown up in a world filled with magic and supernatural beings, that is). Lamentation didn't have that for me.
I don't remember too many details, but I do remember practically every character knowing how to do and how to interpret the various spy signs, which I found to be completely unbelievable.
