It's a gorgeous love story and coming-of-age story set a few decades ago in a Minnesota (or Wisconsin? somewhere around there) winter.
I've also long been tempted by Posy Simmonds' Tamara Drewe, inspired by Hardy's Far From the Madding Crowd. But that may just be because I have fond childhood memories of her Chocolate Wedding. In any case, I haven't read it yet.
