I'm on a dry spell - the last few things I've picked up have been Not Good, or rereads. But last month I read J D Robb's In Death series, and found them engrossing reading, with a mostly consistent plot development and(mostly) believable characters, and a lead I rooted for from the beginning.
I read and liked very much (but didn't LOVE) Geek Love by Katherine Dunn.
Before that, I was reading various translations (including Ashok Banker's disappointing series) of the Ramayana, plus commentaries/essays, which I enjoyed very much.
