Yes, I have to do it at some point Larry Send a noteboard - 29/12/2011 08:57:18 PM
The poetry will be in nasta'liq, so I might as well learn it sooner rather than later. I'm thinking I might actually buy the Rosetta Stone software for Persian, just so I can speed things up a bit (usually I don't have the patience for such software).

Never used Rosetta Stone, though I'm amused at how your "speeding things up" requires "patience that you usually don't have". :P

Well, I learn quicker if I can hear the language as well as see/read it, so that's something. Problem is having to go through the repetitions designed for slower-learning people. It does make sense...I think ;)

I've always thought nasta'liq looked extremely tiresome to read, but I suppose with some effort it has to be doable... still, rather you than me. ;)

Indeed.

For the sake of practicing the alphabet, you could also try reading lots of loanwords or words that you already know, like e.g. <a href="http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%81%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%B3%D8%AA_%DA%A9%D8%B4%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%87%D8%A7%DB%8C_%D8%AC%D9%87%D8%A7%D9%86_%D8%A8%D8%B1_%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%B3_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D8%A8%D8%A7%DB%8C_%D9%81%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%B3%DB%8C">this</a> (and how's that for an URL?).

True. It's certainly not as easy as Cyrillic, which took me maybe 10 minutes to memorize, at least in the Serbian modified form?

Was that supposed to be kitab? You wrote n, not i, for the second consonant. *NM* - 29/12/2011 04:32:39 PM 288 Views

"I" doesn't look like that in a medial position, Larry. - 29/12/2011 04:47:04 PM 726 Views
I meant the typewriter "i" - 29/12/2011 04:53:46 PM 713 Views
Frankly, the rest of it looks garbled, too *NM* - 29/12/2011 04:44:16 PM 294 Views
Yeah, you're not supposed to type the i, hence that hamza that you get. - 29/12/2011 07:07:14 PM 810 Views
