A small mercy so far Larry Send a noteboard - 30/12/2011 12:59:18 AM
Yes, it has the ch (tch) and p and g that Arabic don't have, but it has no emphatic sounds. Sad and tha are pronounced as /s/, and dha and the emphatic d and z are all just pronounced /z/. The ta marbuta is just pronounced as /t/.

I have a hard enough time with the trilled r, having to learn how to distinguish the sounds of those letters would be a nightmare.

Amusing thing in this Persian-English/English-Persian dictionary I bought: The author gives a pronunciation guide for Iranians who want to know how to pronounce Southern English, namely the r dropping in the coastal dialects.

Was that supposed to be kitab? You wrote n, not i, for the second consonant. *NM* - 29/12/2011 04:32:39 PM 248 Views

"I" doesn't look like that in a medial position, Larry. - 29/12/2011 04:47:04 PM 649 Views
I meant the typewriter "i" - 29/12/2011 04:53:46 PM 620 Views

Yeah, you're not supposed to type the i, hence that hamza that you get. - 29/12/2011 07:07:14 PM 723 Views
