Scott Lynch is the author of The Gentleman Bastards series, of which only the first two are out so far. Those are The Lies of Locke Lamora and Red Seas Under Red Skies. The second book is good, but the first book is great, and I easily recommend it if you like fun, action-packed books that combine serious business with quippy dialogue. Locke Lamora is for my money one of the best characters going today. He's a thief who specializes in elaborate con games against the rich along with his band of cohorts, and the first book is, of course, about what happens when everything goes wrong and everyone wants them dead.

Lynch and Stover are actually connected, because Stover in some ways helped mentor Lynch. Stover is the author of the Acts of Caine books. To date, these are Heroes Die, Blade of Tyshalle, and Black Knife. For my money, Stover is the best action fantasy writer out there, and he himself is a trained martial artist to back up his descriptions with reality. He has a way of describing action sequences that are just perfect. His books are about a future dystopian Earth squashed beneath the heels of a class system, where a way to access a parallel dimension/world has been discovered. This other world is a fantasy world. Actors from Earth are sent into the other world with the specific goal of causing trouble, disturbing shit, and getting into dangerous situations, so that rich people back home plugged into the system can experience all the horrible and exciting things they do as a form of entertainment.

Caine is the best of them, a ruthless killer who never loses, the most popular actor in the world. But back home he's just a regular guy from the lower classes who is owned by the system. The first book is about what happens when the system puts his wife in danger and holds her safety hostage in the other world so that Caine will have to plunge into the worst danger he's ever faced, with the goal of assassinating the supposedly invincible ruler of the fantasy world, a ruler who is beginning to figure out the truth behind these troublemaking "aktirs" who are invading his world. The series goes from there. It's fantastic, and a shame that it's not more widely-read. Seriously some of the most gripping and engaging action you'll find in a fantasy series, with a very interesting character in Caine. Though be warned that the series would be rated M for language, violence, and a bit of relatively mild sexuality.

I believe that both Stover's fourth book and Lynch's third book are due out sometime this year, but I'm not positive on that. Stover is also known (by me at least) for writing two of the best Star Wars books in recent memory. He wrote the Episode III novelization, and it was ten times better than the actual movie.
