How is it entertaining? Dark Knight Send a noteboard - 24/01/2012 02:41:31 PM
And I actually kind of like Codex Alara. Definitely not as strong as Dresden, but it's entertaining.

Seriously? It's so bad, so so bad. It's almost physically harming me to try to finish the 3rd book.

I can't really refute most of DK's complaints, as I haven't read it very recently, but I will object to the magic criticism.

It's not too tough to understand- and a bit of fuzziness or mystery doesn't really hurt a magic system, anyway. Not everyone is Brandon Sanderson, after all.

You can have a mysterious magic system but it still has to be done properly. And at least write properly. Stop telling us so and so is very powerful. Show us, don't tell us. But he can't do that because you can't make heads or tails about how the magic is used.

Even Dresden File's magic isn't really that well explained. They talk a lot about it, of course, but it really tends to just boil down to "Focus on it hard enough, and it'll work."

I couldn't get into it. What's worse is the Codex Alera write-up at the end of each Dresden Book - 23/01/2012 10:58:06 PM 545 Views
Hah, those things at the end of each Dresden paperback bug me, too - 24/01/2012 03:16:27 AM 392 Views
