In my memory, at least (whatever that's worth after more than ten years), I stubbornly fought my way through it, even though it was the dullest thing I'd ever read by a very long shot, but perhaps without it I'd have better memories of the book as a whole. :P

Most Victorian novels that I've read so far apply one way or another - Vanity Fair, anything by Trollope, even Middlemarch perhaps.
