Anno Dracula by Kim Newman Stephen Send a noteboard - 23/02/2012 06:39:52 PM
Vampire book set in London in the 1880s. Dracula is Prince Consort to Queen Victoria, Jack the Ripper is killing vampire prostitutes and various people both pro- and anti-vampire (and pro- and anti-Dracula too, while we're at it) are all involved. Kim Newman includes absolute tonnes of famous fictional vampires in the book, either directly involved or just referenced, along with many real life denizens of London at the time. The appearance of vampire Oscar Wilde is both the most ridiculous and brilliant things I have ever read. All in all it was a highly enjoyable book.

I was also really happy to see that Kim Newman replied to a tweet I wrote about just thinking about the background of the book, in terms of vampire fiction which influneced it.
"I mean, if everyone had a soul, there would be no contrast by which we could appreciate it. For giving us this perspective, we thank you." - Nate
