I don't agree with all his readings, but he has a lot of very interesting stuff on seeing the novels in the Anglo-Saxon/Old English context.

I am now reading Jon Ronson's Them, which is funny and feels like a follow-up to the Mythologies of Secret Societies book I read earlier. It isn't of course. Jon Ronson is the man behind the Men Who Stare at Goats book.
