... cameras everywhere and some sort of two way television in Winston's flat. They're not cruising around on hovercars or traveling to stars. It's really just an extension of things that already existed. It's like saying that any novel that has any kind of sophisticated technology is ScyFy. If so, I guess Tom Clancy has been writing ScyFy his entire career.

I see Atwood's definition of "Speculative Fiction" as being more apt.
