Personally, I'm not a big fan.
There are some aspects that have been overused, and the books could have been good if they hadn't been written for kids (I'm assuming they were, anyway).
Though, I must say, they're well written, and I still want to read book 4 whenever it comes out.

The first book struck me as blatant plagiarism. I read the second one thinking maybe it would get better but that one I just didn't enjoy. Might, and I stress might, pick the third one up at the library but I won't pay for it, and it's been...I think three years since I read the second one, so it's not very high on my priority list.
I know, tell me how you really feel, right? ;)
I might have liked them if I hadn't read/seen the stories and characters he ripped off.
