The first volume of the anthology is much more extensively Medieval than I remembered it being. However, the anthology surprised me in another way this time. It had Bernart de Ventadorn's Can vei lauzeta mover, "When I see the lark move," which is an Occitan poem by a Provençal troubadour.
I started studying Old French by way of Old Occitan, which is (and I cannot emphasize the next word enough) VERY similar to Old French. The noun declensions, the vowel changes - everything is extremely close. However, Occitan is just that little bit closer to Spanish than Old French is.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

Apparently the word "lay" meaning "story" comes from Irish "laid", meaning "song". *NM*
