It doesn't make much sense and Erikson long ago gave up on trying to make it make sense (ICE is much better in that regard, often fixing Erikson's mistakes).

That said, in DHG I always guessed that the latter part of the journey took as long as the former, but Erikson skipped it because it would have gotten monotonous and tedious.


Thankfully I should be able to ignore or not even notice most issues across books, but in this case it was too noticeable and obvious even for me to miss it.

Though if Erikson really did skip time in the second half of the book, and Coltaine really did essentially carry on a running battle for over a hundred leagues, that would certainly reinforce the awe everyone holds him in... But at the same time pushes the Chain of Dogs even further into the realm of the impossible.

Oh well, hopefully such time related issues won't detract too much from my enjoyment of the other aspects of the books.
