I'm actually up to the Demon King of Karanda (Mallorean reread), but I totally agree. Bookwyrm Send a noteboard - 13/04/2013 07:42:25 AM

I am dying right now, from utter boredom WHILE reading something I remember loving. I feel like I'm merely watching people have a [dull] conversation about one topic. Characters are so accommodating to each other, even the villains and antagonists, that I want to rip out my hair. Everyone is some type of caricature of their sex. Basically, the men are helpless idiots and the women are nags.

And don't get me started on the Prophecy driven plot. I can literally picture these characters walking around with a script on what to do or say. It's a freaking DERPfest.

All the flaws in the Belgariad are magnified times ten in the Mallorean. If I have to read another "Yes, dear." from one of the characters, I will drown myself.

BOHICA - Go ahead, ask me what it means.

Interesting. I certainly wouldn't make that comparison... - 27/03/2013 09:30:33 PM 1112 Views

I guess, but they also learn not to take her too seriously at times like those. - 30/03/2013 09:18:10 PM 971 Views
True, but the fact that they indulge her at all irritates me - 31/03/2013 03:18:37 AM 1002 Views
I think you're forgetting David wasn't the only Eddings writing those books - 29/03/2013 05:14:55 PM 991 Views
I liked the "secondary" female characters a lot, actually - 30/03/2013 06:50:07 PM 940 Views
The problem was the longer the secondary's stuck around the more Mary Sue they became - 30/03/2013 09:10:57 PM 982 Views
Yeah, the Hettar thing was pretty random, wasn't it - 31/03/2013 03:20:22 AM 939 Views
Mostly just undercooked - 31/03/2013 04:48:48 AM 895 Views
True, although I feel Polgara (in her own series) and Aphrael hold up well enough even in rereads. - 30/03/2013 09:12:31 PM 1003 Views
Polgara the Sorceress was maybe a bit late, but Aphrael is a ffair example - 30/03/2013 10:16:26 PM 1202 Views
