View original postSadly, I haven't read any of the contenders either, but I've heard many good things about N.K. Jemisin and Caitlin Kiernan. The Saladin Ahmed novel is an attempt to write fantasy with an Islamic medieval inspiration rather than a Christian one, if I recall correctly (as one might guess from the title and the author's name).
Yeah, the N.K. Jemisin book caught my attention while looking into them. May give that one a try at least.

I've not read "The Killing Moon", but I highly recommend N.K.Jemisin's "The Inheritance Trilogy" *NM*
