Dino Buzzati - The Seven Messengers

Gormenghast
Buzzati writes the most delightful short stories but I doubt the book would be in the first twenty or the first hundred books of any list.
Thanks for making me aware of his work, by the way.
And Gormenghast is known all right but I am not sure it gets all the love it deserves. So I'm mentioning it here.
Second that.
I'd also add Angela Carter to the list, as well as Edward Whittemore. Criminally underread by many who proclaim their love for all things genre.
