It's exactly what Robert Jordan did when his story got away from him, though in all fairness Martin's story got away from him starting with Book IV. I'm so happy that HBO is able to twist his arm to make sure that at least the TV series stays on some semblance of a schedule. If Books 4 and 5 are collapsed into one season they just might be watchable.
