Offer to try to read the books your relative has loaned you, but have them promise to read a couple books you want them to read in exchange. Call it an educational compromise.

Give Eragon a try, and then when you just have to quit, because they are so bad, tell them the books weren't quite you cup of tea. Hopefully, they'll read the books you think are good and will start to change their opinion.
