I am trying to recall analogous situations from various fantasy works that parallel a Real Life scenario. Namely, old fart was once responsible for helping to loose a horrific evil on the world and is now aligned with the parties responsible for getting rid of it, with strong undertones of redemption or penance.
I KNOW there are lots of sci-fi movies, with scientists who helped create the bad thing and are now trying to help fix it, and there are guys like Adam X of Mutant X who have only a partial responsibility to it, but I am really looking for characters like Medivh in Warcraft III. According to the backstory for Warcraft II (I never played I), he was the one who brought the Orcs to the world for his own power and glory, and he is the one masterminding the efforts to stop the undead and Burning Legion in part III. Can anyone think of characters in similar circumstances to him in Warcraft III? That is only work I can think of that best matches the Real World scenario, which may become manifest by the end of the month (and no, I am NOT refering to the release of tGS).

Obi Wan trained Vader. Though you could say Qui Gon's dying wish was against his better judgement *NM*
