The one parallel that does come to mind is in Joe Abercrombie's The First Law series. I am thinking in particular of The Bloody Nine and his men. Each in his way responsible for what happened in the North, and then seemingly compelled to fight against it. It plays into some of the other characters and their motivations as well.
