I would rather call the cliches they talk of more as intertextuality, since I without reading it think that's the way she uses them. Since she uses them delibarately in the world of the story, I think she maybe uses them like Haruki Murakami does, making them like obvious details that refer back to their origin, wether it be in novels, movies etc .


I think that's a fair comment, although I've not yet read the book.
