Two of my favorite scenes in fantasy are from Shriek: first, Duncan's horrifying discovery underground, and second, the fungal war depictions on the way to the opera house. But in a way, I didn't enjoy the act of reading Shriek nearly as much as I enjoyed the mental result of that labor. Finch sounds like it might be just about perfect, though.
