Third, it needs to have interesting consequence for the characters. Look at WOT, the magic system and the consequences of that system is one of the things that make this such an interesting a compelling story.


Yes, the nature of Sai'din made for interesting dilemmas. A situation that requires you to create an army of powerful spellcasters that may at any time turn psychotic is a desperate one, with echoes of the atomic bomb. Having your protagonist messiah run the same risks is a stroke of genius as well.
