But perhaps the codes themselves didn't have such an extensive vocabulary, but the characters interpretations of the codes + body language + eye contact is what made it so nuanced. Or the codes are bare bones, and the characters know how smart the other people are, so they fill in the blanks with smarter sounding words ;).
