The story of Kvothe is much more maturely written than anything from the Potterverse. There are basic similarities but those weren't originated in HP. Th orphaned boy, magic schools, rich enemy, are all cliches used many times before JKR and Rothfuss.
November Book Club is now open! The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

It's almost as if the author decided there needed to be a little adventure to move the story along.

The book has been compared with Harry Potter. Do you think this is fair? Why/why not? *NM*

I really couldn't say whether it was fair. Seems a weird judgement to me.
