I stumbled across some Star Wars novels when I was young and stupid, and I am never making that mistake again.

I only know Stackpole from BattleTech novels, but those are the only ones I've seen that are more than (poor) fanfic. Never read Moorcock either, but all accounts are he knows what he's doing, he's not just a fanboy who woke up this morning and decided he's an Author.

The bigger concern is, without reading them, I recall synopses of Dr. Who novels show they have a habit of breaking canon.
