Basically what temeraire said- "genre" has a stigma, no matter how unfair it may be beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 01/12/2009 07:43:50 PM
If someone wants to write a complex, thought-provoking story filled with beautiful imagery and complicated characters, they're wonderful. If the story happens to take place in space, or if the protagonist happens to be an elf, many people roll their eyes and look for "real literature."

Which is idiotic- for every terrible story about an orphan with a Mysterious Past who is the Chosen One, there's a terrible story about a divorced dad moping around a fishing village in Maine as he tries to come to terms with the world.

90% of EVERYTHING is crap, not just SF.

Ah, well.
I amuse myself.
