The languages are similar enough that I can sort of understand Polish. Put the emphasis on "sort of".
Plus, the translation was done during the Soviet era, when there were lots of really talented people working as translators to translate works from "brotherly Socialist" countries. The arts and humanities really suffered when Russia went to being a market economy. You didn't expect me to say that, did you?
