I was 16 at the time, and had some money in my pocket. I saw it lying there and for some reason it just talked to me, by the very beautiful cover the Dutch version had (see link).

I spent the crazy small amount it took to buy the book and got hooked on the genre for the rest of my life. And here I am 20 years later...
The mystery deepens... I think. *MySmiley*
