You have elements, and a certain stone corresponds to a different element, with some exceptions. The stones are resevoirs for when a person is away from their element. Lets say a solar mage at night when he is cut off from the source of his power, sunlight, would have a resevoir. If you want I can noteboard you what little details I have... it never really took off.
