The first three books are great, but I always really struggle with the fourth; to this day, I've still not got past the first fifth of the book. I don't know whether it's the change of setting/time period, but I found it incredibly un-engaging.

And come back to Karsa's storyline later. It's not really essential for the rest of HoC, although since Karsa is an important character in later books, you should probably read it eventually.
